The Wednesday Painters of the Barnwell Center meet
informally each week to paint, critique and eat lunch in the Barnwell Studio.
Members bring whatever they are currently working on and often sketch scenes
from the studio window or in the conservatory. Watercolor is the medium of
choice of most members, but work is sometimes done in other media. Visitors to
the Barnwell are welcome to drop in to watch or speak with the artists at work.
Children are frequent visitors. Sometimes members help visiting students
understand and appreciate the art exhibits in the building as well as their own
work.
For many years the Wednesday Painters have shown their
work once a year at the Barnwell Center, alternating between the Wafer Gallery
and the Corridor Gallery. In addition, the group has been invited to hang work
at other venues, including the Women’s Department Club.
The Wednesday Painters consists of a few long-standing members as well as several
newcomers. We are an informal no-officers, no-dues group, getting together
weekly to work on whatever projects we wish and to enjoy each other’s company.
Wednesday Painters is truly a cooperative effort by local artists, sharing with
and learning from each other.
If you would like to join this informal group, call Judy Horne (797-4189) for more
information.
