Friends of the Barnwell

           Dedicated to the advancement of cultural activities in the city, R.S. Barnwell Memorial Garden and Art Center is situated along the banks of the smooth– flowing Red River. The combination art and horticulture facility was the first of its kind in the Southeast. Visitors to the center will find continuous displays in both fields as well as periodic special exhibits.

           The spacious structure is named for the late R.S. “Cap” Barnwell, Sr., Northwest Louisiana oil pioneer. The family donated half of the construction cost of the facility, which is owned by the City of Shreveport and operated by the Friends of the Barnwell, a 501C nonprofit organization.

MISSION

The Friends of Barnwell’s mission is to promote and support visual arts and music which capitalizes on our cultural diversity; to educate the community about art and horticulture; to develop the artistic skills of artists and children in our community; and to provide quality professional art exhibitions, music performances and horticulture programming to enhance our community spirit.  For more than 25 years The Friends of Barnwell has been endeavoring to ensure that the Shreveport-Bossier community and visitors to our area experience the finest in art and horticulture.
